Ohanaeze set to join IPOB/MASSOB in the struggle for Kanu’s release

The new leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday vowed to join forces with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) to secure an unconditional release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking to journalists in Awka, the newly elected Anambra State president of Ohanaeze, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene noted that Biafra was for justice, fairness and equity, saying that the struggle for its actualisation was no longer an issue of violence, but a matter of the brain, which he enjoined pro-Biafra groups to embrace.

Ogene said “Ohanaeze would also establish a link with similar bodies in other geo-political zones of the country, as well as the churches and market leaders so as to restore the dignity of the Igbo race and in so doing, reduce tension across the country.

“We are no longer prepared to lose any lives in the name of the struggle. Ohanaeze Ndigbo will, among other things, reach out to law enforcement agencies and minimise conflicts between them and the people, especially with regard to extortion at the check points.

“We also intend to empanel a legal team of volunteers to take care of injustices against Igbo and will also assemble medical experts to take care of emergency situations.”

While stating that the new Ohanaeze leadership would work towards ensuring the delegation of responsibilities, Ogene stressed that for the purpose of delegation, various committees would be set up to handle specific issues.
