Damaged APC campaign posters
By GARBA MUHAMMAD
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has condemned the alleged destruction of its campaign signboards and posters in Argungu and Birnin Kebbi, accusing suspected supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of involvement in the incidents.
The party described the development as unfortunate and a threat to peaceful political activities, warning against acts capable of heightening political tension in the state.
In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Isah Abubakar Assalafi, the APC said political differences should not be used as justification for vandalising campaign materials or denying opposition parties their legitimate democratic rights.
Assalafi expressed disappointment that rather than engaging voters through programmes, achievements and ideas, some political actors allegedly resorted to destroying campaign materials belonging to rival parties.
He stressed that democracy guarantees every political party the right to promote its activities, display posters and erect signboards without intimidation or harassment.
The APC spokesman maintained that the Governor Nasir Idris-led administration remained committed to the rule of law, peaceful coexistence and democratic principles, insisting that the party would neither encourage violence nor tolerate political hostility.
He urged APC supporters to remain calm and resist any temptation to retaliate, assuring them that the appropriate authorities should be allowed to address the matter.
Assalafi also called on security agencies to investigate the incidents and bring anyone found responsible to justice, while appealing to the ADC leadership to caution its supporters against actions capable of undermining political stability.
“Political parties may disagree on issues, compete for public support and hold different opinions, but such differences should not translate into hostility or destruction of one another’s property,” he said.
He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, respect for the rights of other political parties and the preservation of peace across Kebbi State.
The allegations against ADC supporters could not be independently verified, while the party’s reaction was not available at the time of filing this report.
