The Police Command in Ogun says it has foiled a night robbery operation and eutralizat the suspect at Ijaba area of Iyesi, Ota in Ogun.
The Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi explained that operatives from the Onipanu Division under Ota swiftly intervened and disrupted the operation, leading to the death of one of the suspects.
He said that the operation also led to the recovery of two vehicles, a substantial cache of suspected stolen property, including HP and Dell laptops, a PlayStation console, four mobile phones and a Samsung television,
Others items recovered included a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing, an Opay ATM card, a sound deck, two MP3 devices and other household devices.
Babaseyi added that a locally made pistol, two live cartridges and seven expended cartridges were also recovered from the deceased suspect.
“The incident occurred in Ijaba Iyesi, Ota, on Sunday at about 1.45 a.m., following a distress call from a concerned citizen. The responding patrol team promptly eutraliz to the location.
“On sighting the operatives, the armed robbers opened fire, prompting an immediate tactical response.
“The ensuing exchange of gunfire resulted in the eutralization of one suspect, while other gang members fled with suspected gunshot injuries,” he said.
Babaseyi said that a search conducted after the encounter led to the recovery of two vehicles; a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry.
Also found were a Tecno mobile phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards and some cash.
He said that the command has intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, particularly those who may have sustained gunshot injuries.
According to Babaseyi, investigations are ongoing to establish the ownership of the recovered vehicles and other exhibits, as well as determine their possible links to other criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response, professionalism and courage.
The CP reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing, sustained patrol operations and rapid response to security concerns across the state.
He encouraged residents to remain vigilant, go about their lawful activities without apprehension and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the police.
Ojajuni assured the public that the Command remains alert, accessible and committed to protecting lives and property.
He urged residents to sustain their partnership with the police by providing timely and credible information, noting that public cooperation remains essential to effective crime prevention and community safety. (NAN)
