United States singer, Christopher Maurice Brown, popularly known as Chris Brown, has been sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for a year, over an assault on music producer Abe Diaw at a nightclub in Mayfair, London, in 2023.

Brown, 37, pleaded guilty in July to a charge of affray over the incident, which left Diaw requiring hospital treatment for head and knee injuries.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the singer hitting Diaw on the head with a glass bottle during the incident.

Delivering his sentencing remarks, Judge Tony Baumgartner says “the repeated use” of a bottle was “plainly dangerous”

Acknowledging the incident was “short”, the judge says it was also “intense”. Earlier, defence barristers said this was an “ugly and unattractive incident”, adding it “was very short-lived”

Brown’s co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, a 40-year-old vocal coach, was also sentenced over the incident. He received a four-month prison sentence, suspended for a year. (Nigerian Tribune)
