The Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) Caretaker Committee has assured stakeholders of a transparent electoral process, pledging fairness and equal opportunities for all qualified aspirants.
The development follows concerns and public comments regarding the committee’s activities and mandate.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the committee is expected to oversee the federation’s affairs, during the transitional period and facilitate a credible election.
This is contained in a statement by Sheriff Hammed, Chairman of the NJF caretaker committee, issued to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos.
According to the statement, although the committee operates under the authority of the National Sports Commission (NSC) it remains committed to independence, fairness and impartiality.
It stressed that the committee would not serve as a mouthpiece for any individual, group or interest, or advance personal or political agendas.
The statement noted that the committee acknowledged receiving concerns regarding the conduct of certain individuals associated with the former board.
It however, maintained that allegations, personal interests and preconceived positions would not influence the electoral process.
The statement said transparency, fairness, due process and equal opportunity would guide the committee’s decisions, throughout the transition.
It added that all qualified and interested aspirants could obtain nomination forms and contest the forthcoming elections, provided they met the eligibility requirements outlined in the NJF Statutes and applicable regulations.
The committee assured stakeholders that no candidate would be unfairly excluded because of personal disagreements, affiliations or considerations outside established rules.
It also warned against attempts to disrupt, manipulate or undermine the electoral process.
According to the statement, individuals found violating applicable regulations or compromising electoral integrity can face appropriate sanctions, including disqualification, where legally justified.
It said the committee had therefore urged state associations, athletes, coaches, referees and other stakeholders, to support a peaceful, transparent and orderly transition.
The statement said the committee had encouraged all parties to pursue their interests through appropriate channels, respect established procedures and avoid actions capable of undermining electoral credibility.
The statement said the also committee remained committed to strengthening institutional accountability, restoring confidence in the federation and laying a solid foundation for Nigerian judo.
It reiterated committee’s determination to deliver a credible and orderly transition that reflected the collective interests of the sport and its stakeholders nationwide. (NAN)
