The police has gone to work, arresting the suspects
Anxiety has taken over Umuoba-Anam in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State following the alleged killing of two cattle breeders by unknown persons in the area at the weekend.
So far, six persons have been arrested in connection with the incident while the Anambra State Police Command has deployed over 500 of its men to ensure peace and order is maintained in the community.
Addressing journalists in Awka, the state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Okaula said that the command was not taking it lightly in the community, saying that anybody involved in any unwholesome act would face the full weight of the law.
Though, he did not confirm any killings, he said the Police Command was still carrying out investigation as events unfold in the community.
Okaula however, said that what they had for now was a case of missing persons.
The Commissioner said his men had stormed all nooks and crannies of Umuoba-Anam community including the bushes to ensure that hoodlums do not take over the area while calling on the people to go about their normal businesses without panic as security operatives were on top of the situation.
Meanwhile, the South East leader of Cattle Breeders Association, also known as Miyetti-Allah, Alhaji Sadiq Gidado, said the incident took place at the weekend while they were grazing.
He said the cattle breeders were at Eziagulu-Otu community grazing, but decided to go to Otuocha market all in Anambra East council area to buy something, when they were abducted by some youths.
Gidado maintained that since the incident happened, the two persons had not been seen but their caps and shoes had been recovered with the exception of their motorcycle.
Speaking with Journalists in Awka on the issue, 60-year-old Alhaji Bello Nuhu, father of one of the victims, Musa Bello Nuhu (26), said he had not had a wink since the incident happened adding that his instinct tells him his son has been murdered since his belongings were found.
He said: “I saw blood at the scene of the incident. I was in my house when I got a call and I rushed to the place and since then, I’ve been devastated and worried because that my son is in charge of my cattle and the other siblings of his, cannot take care of the cattle”
Also, Haruna Hassan, who is 40 years old and elder brother to Adamu Haruna (32) who was alleged to have been killed by the youths, said it was only two of them who were remaining and taking care of their late father’s cattle.
He said: “Our father was equally killed some years back during the Uzo-Uwani saga in Enugu State.
“I have been sad and frustrated since the weekend because of the incident.”
On his part, the leader of Miyetti-Allah in the South East said that if they were killed, all they want is to see their bodies and that way will be satisfied.
He added: “I don’t know why some people want to cause trouble after the peace accord with the state government and security operatives in Anambra.”
