Late Pa Reuben Fasoranti
The residence of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the foremost leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation Afenifere, has been thrown into mourning after his death at 100.
Political figures, Afenifere leaders, and sympathisers have continued to visit his private residence in Ijapo Estate, Akure, Ondo State’s capital, to pay their respects.
Fasoranti reportedly died on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 100.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced his death in a condolence message issued in Akure.
The governor described the late elder statesman as a respected voice on democracy, good governance and the interests of the Yoruba people.
He said the late elder statesman’s counsel, fatherly guidance, and principled positions on justice and good governance would be sorely missed.
Early visitors included the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Oluabo of Ilu-Abo in the Akure North LGA; Oba Olu Falae; Chief Femi Aluko; and Mr Femi Meshe, among others.
The Nation Correspondent, who visited the residence, reported that some sympathisers were discussing Pa Fasoranti’s death in hushed tones.
A condolence register has been placed at the Afenifere leader’s private residence.
The son of the late sage, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, disclosed that his father died ‘peacefully in his room, on his bed’ on Tuesday.
Taiwo, who is also the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said that his father died at his residence along Ijapo Road in Akure.
He spoke to The Nation on Tuesday, revealing that the family had been looking forward to celebrating the elder statesman’s 101st birthday before his death.
