Oyo State Gov Seyi Makinde
The African Action Congress (AAC) in Oyo State has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Police Command to fish out the perpetrators of the deadly attack on the campaign procession of the Accord Party.
The AAC warned that failure to apprehend the culprits would lead to a protest by a coalition of opposition parties and their supporters.
The party, in a statement yesterday by the state Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, criticised “the apparent inaction” of Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies in the state on the attack which left one person dead and many injured last Wednesday.
“It’s sad to see Makinde and Oyo Police on mute; are they accomplices to the attacks within the state?” AAA said
It added: “Elections should be fair and free, but when campaigns turn violent, the people we claim to serve and represent suffer.
“We in the African Action Congress are still worried about the silence of the Oyo State Police Command and Seyi Makinde over the murderous attack along the Molete-Beere axis of Ibadan
It’s been over five days; no single effort has been made by the police, no single arrest has been made. Makinde ignored it as if nothing happened while thugs continue to display thuggery within the city of Ibadan and people begin to live in fear.
“We give Makinde, Oyo Police Command, 48 hours to fish out the attackers.
“We want to state categorically that the case of Osun State, where scores were killed all because of a day election, will not be allowed in Oyo State. We won’t return to the old Oyo where elections were do or die.
“We won’t open our eyes when elections turn violent as a way to demobilise every party supporter from coming to campaign or vote for their candidates.” (The Nation)
