Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) on Friday ended their winless run with a 3-1 victory over Ranchers Bees of Kaduna in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday Nine fixture.
The match, played at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, saw the hosts recover from a setback to secure all three points.
Shooting Stars started brightly and took the lead in the 14th minute through Desmond Ojietefian, who finished clinically to put the hosts ahead.
Ranchers Bees responded strongly and equalised in the 37th minute to restore parity through Isah Aliyu.
However, Damilola Akintola struck in first-half added time to restore Shooting Stars’ lead, sending the Ibadan side into the break ahead 2-1.
On resumption, 3SC pushed for a third goal and won a penalty in the 52nd minute, but Sodiq Ibrahim failed to convert from the spot.
Ranchers Bees goalkeeper, Alhassan Tofa, made an important save to deny Ibrahim and keep the visitors’ hopes of a comeback alive.
The hosts continued to press and sealed the victory in the 71st minute when Qamar Adegoke scored their third goal.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the victory is expected to boost the morale of the players and technical crew following recent poor performances that had attracted dissatisfaction and negative reactions from fans.
With the win, Shooting Stars occupy 12th position on the league table with 11 points from nine matches. (NAN)
