A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has arraigned three persons over alleged breach of peace and obstruction of police officers in the discharge of their duties.
The defendants are Wasiu Barakat, 20; Opeyemi Ajulo, 24; and Ogunjemilua Nifemi, 19.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants and others still at large allegedly conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace at Odo community, within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District, at about 8 p.m. on October 3, 2026.
Oriyomi further alleged that Barakat and others at large threatened violence against Aderemi Aladesanmi on the same date, while Ajulo allegedly obstructed police officers in the discharge of their lawful duties at about 10 a.m. on October 4, 2026.
The prosecutor said the alleged offences were punishable under Sections 422, 62, 187(b) and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Counsel to the defendants, Barrister Adunmi Olanipekun, urged the court to grant his clients bail, assuring the court that they would not jump bail.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted each defendant bail of N100,000 with one surety in the same amount. The sureties were required to provide evidence of two years’ tax payment.
The case was adjourned until November 3, 2026, for hearing. (Daily Trust)
