The Nigeria Police Force, Lekki Division, has commended Nembe Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (NEPCL) for donating a 12KVA inverter-solar power system to strengthen operations at the division.

The Police said the intervention demonstrated corporate responsibility and goodwill, while reinforcing partnership between the private sector and security agencies.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Onyosen Hasheed, in a letter of appreciation to NEPCL sighted on Thursday, expressed gratitude for the donation and described it as a valuable contribution to the division.

The DPO said the gesture would assist the police in maintaining effective operations, particularly by providing a more dependable electricity supply at the station.

According to the police, the donated system comprises solar panels, inverter equipment and lithium-battery storage installed at the Lekki Police Station.

The intervention is expected to reduce the division’s dependence on conventional electricity sources and improve power availability for routine police activities.

The Police Division said the donation would contribute to creating a more conducive environment for personnel to discharge their responsibilities.

It also highlighted the importance of collaboration between security institutions and responsible corporate organisations in addressing challenges affecting effective service delivery.

The gesture comes amid the growing importance of the Lekki axis as a major residential, commercial, industrial and investment corridor in Lagos.

The area hosts significant economic activities, including logistics, hospitality, real estate, technology and industrial developments, making security and operational resilience important to businesses and residents.

The Lagos State Economic Development Update 2025 reported that Lagos generated ?43.06 trillion in Gross Domestic Product in 2023.

The figure represented 18.38 per cent of Nigeria’s national GDP, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics and Lagos Bureau of Statistics cited in the update.

For the first half of 2024, Lagos accounted for ?27.39 trillion, representing 22.36 per cent of Nigeria’s GDP.

NEPCL said its intervention was therefore aimed at supporting a public institution whose effectiveness contributes to safety and stability within the Lekki business environment.

The company described the project as part of its environmental, social and governance commitment to supporting communities and institutions within its operating environment.

From an environmental perspective, the solar installation promotes cleaner energy use and provides an alternative source of electricity for the police station.

Socially, the project supports the capacity of a public security institution responsible for protecting lives, property and commercial activities.

The initiative also reflects the governance component of ESG through practical collaboration between a corporate organisation and a public institution.

NEPCL, operator of the NNPC/Nembe Joint Venture (OML 29), said the project was designed to provide a practical community benefit beyond a symbolic corporate gesture.

The company said reliable energy and effective security were important to sustaining confidence among residents, workers, businesses and investors in the Lekki corridor.

The Police Division’s appreciation of the intervention underscores the potential value of targeted private-sector support for improving operational conditions within public institutions.
