The Igbo Community Association of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has demanded the immediate investigation and possible prosecution of Senator Shehu Buba over allegations linking him to known and wanted terrorists, questioning why security agencies have allegedly failed to act against the Bauchi State senator.

The association made the demand in a statement signed by its President General, Engr. (Nze) Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, and Secretary General, Mazi Chinwoke Emmanuel Onah, and dated September 8, 2026, describing itself as the apex body representing more than 2.8 million Igbo residents in the FCT.

The group alleged that the Department of State Services (DSS) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had reportedly been alerted to what it described as security concerns surrounding Buba, who is also a member of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence.

According to the association, sources close to the senator had allegedly claimed that he had direct contact with confirmed terrorist suspects, including allegations that some of the individuals had access to his residence and received money from him.

It said the allegations were sufficiently serious to warrant an immediate investigation rather than continued silence from the security agencies.

“This silence is no longer explainable by oversight. It is beginning to look like protection — and Nigerians deserve to know why,” the association said.

The group compared the alleged treatment of Buba with the prosecution and imprisonment of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, arguing that the state had acted more decisively against Kanu despite what it described as a lack of evidence that he funded, armed or directed any attack.

“If the machinery of the Nigerian state can move with such speed and finality against Kanu on that record, it has no excuse — none — for its paralysis in the face of far more direct allegations against a sitting senator,” it said.

The association said the situation raised broader questions about equality before the law and whether political influence could affect how allegations of terrorism-related offences were treated.

“Nigerians are entitled to ask whether justice in this country is a function of ethnicity and political access rather than evidence,” the group said.

It further accused the Federal Government of allowing what it described as a two-tier system of justice to undermine national unity.

“President Tinubu cannot continue to preach one Nigeria while allowing a two-tier system of justice — one for the ordinary citizen and the politically inconvenient, another for the well-connected — to fester under his watch,” the association said.

The group consequently demanded the immediate arrest and thorough investigation of Buba by the DSS and other relevant security agencies.

It also called on the Tinubu administration to publicly account for whatever action had been taken since it reportedly received alerts concerning the senator.

The association further demanded that Buba be prosecuted if an investigation establishes evidence linking him to terrorism-related offences, saying the law should apply with equal force regardless of political office.

“Nigeria’s war against terrorism will remain a hollow, selective exercise until it is blind to power, position, and political office,” the association said.

It vowed not to relent in its demand that Buba answer before the law over the allegations.
