Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has assured that the temporary facility provided for the operationalisation of the newly created 83 Division of the Nigerian Army will be completed within the next two weeks.

Inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation work at Teboga, located in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Okpebholo confirmed that site clearing, environmental sanitation, and structural renovations are progressing rapidly.

He noted that contractors on site have pledged to deploy additional earth-moving equipment to accelerate construction.

The 83 Division is one of four new divisions recently established by President Bola Tinubu to boost national security.

Commander of the 4 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Balogun, commended the state government for its swift action, following directives from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

Balogun highlighted that substantial progress had been made since an assessment team from Army Headquarters evaluated the location just days earlier, expressing confidence in the rapid setup of the operational base.

Parallel to the military infrastructure efforts, Governor Okpebholo convened a strategic security meeting in Benin with the Okaigheles (traditional community youth leaders) to integrate grassroots intelligence into the state’s security framework.

The initiative aims to forge a seamless partnership among youth leaders, the Nigerian Police Force, local vigilante groups, and conventional security agencies to enhance community-level policing.

Emphasising that his administration is determined to protect every resident, Okpebholo urged community stakeholders to report local security threats proactively and prevent criminal elements and external syndicates from operating within the state’s borders. (The Nation)
