Troops of the 28 Special Forces Brigade have repelled an attempted attack by a large number of terrorists targeting a military barracks and two communities in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The incident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on Aug. 26, 2026, when troops of the brigade deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Sifawa, in conjunction with personnel from FOB Shagari, 8 Division Strike Team and Mobile Strike Team, responded to intelligence on the movement of the terrorists around Dandin Mahe and Danchadi villages.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops made contact with the terrorists as they attempted to attack Sifawa Barracks and simultaneously launch assaults on Badau and Danchadi communities in the same local government area.

The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to withdraw from the area.

However, one soldier was killed in action during the encounter. His remains were evacuated to the morgue of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

The sources added that two tyres of an Armoured Personnel Carrier were damaged during the engagement, while the fuel tank and side mirrors of a Buffalo General Transport vehicle were also destroyed.

The troops subsequently maintained their presence in the area and continued efforts to track the fleeing terrorists. (Zagazola)
