With three days to local government elections in Anambra State, the State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) on Wednesday said that it is 90 percent ready for the conduct of the exercise come Saturday, August 29, 2026.

The ANSIEC Commissioner in charge of Information and Publicity, Chief Tony Chinedu, who disclosed this during a press briefing at the Commission’s headquarters in Awka said that electoral materials have been deployed to the state and personnel trained.

According to him, both sensitive and non-sensitive materials have been packed and are ready for deployment to the 21 Local Government Areas, 326 Wards, and 5,200 Polling Units across the state.

He said: "Accreditation and voting will commence exactly at 8am and close by 4pm on election day. Voting and accreditation will go on simultaneously at all polling units.

“We have a total of 22 chairmanship and 346 councillorship candidates for the election.”

While noting that the raining of ad hoc staff will be completed in all the LGAs today (Wednesday)the ANSIEC Commissioner added that two political parties, the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA and Young Progressive Party (YPP) are the only two political parties participating in the election and the process will be on “yes or no” basis in 20 LGAs.

Chinedu reaffirmed ANSIEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election.

He however called on candidates, party supporters, and stakeholders to shun violence, noting that security agencies have been fully deployed to ensure the safety of voters, election officials, and materials.

The ANSIEC boss also appealed to Anambra electorates to come out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice.
