Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah
Two suspects have landed in police net following the alleged attempted rape of a twelve year old girl in the Thomas Henshaw area of Calabar South, in Cross River State.
The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Sunday Eitokpah said the suspects, Moris Monday, aged 68, and Asuquo Effiom, aged 70, were arrested on 23 August 2026 following a report by the victim’s father.
According to him, “Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim alleged that Moris Monday, a shoe repairer, on two separate occasions, 13 and 14 August 2026, allegedly lured her into his room and attempted to sexually assault her.
” She further alleged that on 22 August 2026, Asuquo Effiom similarly lured her into his room and attempted to sexually assault her.
“Following receipt of the complaint, Police investigators proceeded to the Hawkins Road area by Thomas Henshaw Junction, where the suspects were found in the custody of community members and were taken into Police custody”, the police PRO said.
He added that suspects have made statements to the Police and denied the allegations while the victim has been referred to a government-approved medical facility for medical examination.
Meanwhile the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation and necessary legal action.
The Command assures the public that the matter will be handled professionally and in accordance with the law and further developments will be communicated as the investigation progress. (The Sun)
