Newly elected Imo NMA chairman, Dr Kingsley Nwafor
The newly elected Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Imo State chapter, Dr Kingsley Nwafor, has scrapped building project fees imposed by previous administrations, a move that was met with applause from members.
Dr Nwafor, who was sworn in on Monday, announced the abolition during his acceptance speech in Owerri. He said the decision was part of efforts to ease financial pressure on doctors in the state.
“New measures will be introduced to generate such funds,” Nwafor said. “We will also introduce new bylaws in this administration to strengthen the operations of the association.”
He called on his colleagues to support his leadership, promising to run a transparent administration that will prioritise members’ welfare.
In the keenly contested election conducted by a caretaker committee led by Dr Hyacinth Emele, Nwafor polled the highest votes to defeat his challenger, Dr Duru Okechukwu, and emerge as state chairman.
Other executives sworn in unopposed include: Dr S.D. Ejikunle, Vice Chairman; Dr Onyinyechukwu Arua, Treasurer; Dr Chiamaka Ugochukwu, Public Relations Officer; Dr Chibueze Okonji, Welfare Officer; Dr Chidi Njemanze, Financial Secretary; and Dr Precious Eteike, Secretary. (The Sun)
