Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan
Bandits have killed a member of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and abducted a woman, Asma’u, and her son, Umar, in Kyauta New Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred at about 11 pm on Tuesday when the attackers reportedly invaded the community and abducted the mother and her child.
It was gathered that Asma’u’s husband escaped the attack by hiding inside his car as the bandits operated.
A JTF member, who spoke to Daily Trust on condition of anonymity, said the security volunteers spent the night trying to trace the attackers.
“A mother and her child were kidnapped, but the father managed to escape during the attack. One of our JTF members was shot and died at the hospital,” he said.
Daily Trust gathered that the JTF member was shot in the head during the attack and was rushed to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna, for treatment.
However, he reportedly died a few hours after arriving at the hospital.
A senior security officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate.
The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, could not be reached on the phone for comment.
The whereabouts of the abducted mother and her son remained unknown at the time of filing the report. (Daily Trust)
