Hon Natasha Osawaru
Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has been named the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, assumed the opposition leadership position during Monday’s plenary as lawmakers announced a reshuffling of the Assembly’s principal officers.
Her emergence follows her defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in May 2026.
According to a statement from her Media and Strategic Communications Directorate, the leadership changes reflected new alignments among the various party caucuses in the Assembly.
The statement described Osawaru’s appointment as a recognition of her standing among lawmakers and the confidence placed in her by her colleagues and constituents.
Before becoming Minority Leader, Osawaru served as Deputy Majority Leader of the Assembly. She has also been involved in legislative debates and initiatives focused on grassroots development, youth empowerment and women’s advancement.
Reacting to her new position, Osawaru thanked the Assembly leadership, her colleagues and the people of Egor Constituency for their support.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said, stressing the importance of debate, accountability and representing the interests of ordinary citizens.
She also pledged to remain committed to Edo State’s development, the progress of the NDC and the welfare of her constituents.
Her appointment places her among the principal opposition figures in the Edo State House of Assembly. (The Sun)
