Some men merely pass through their generation; others leave footprints so deep that their lives become part of the history of their time. Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, a man with several distinguished awards and National honour belongs to the latter category.

As he celebrates another birthday, we celebrate not only a distinguished pharmacist and entrepreneur, but an uncommon son of Arochukwu whose accomplishments have transcended his profession, community and national boundaries.

Throughout an illustrious career, Mazi Ohuabunwa has demonstrated that professional training can be a platform for extraordinary achievement. From pharmacy, he ventured into entrepreneurship, industry, corporate leadership and national affairs, emerging as one of Nigeria’s foremost advocates of pharmapreneurship.

His journey has expanded the possibilities of the Nigerian pharmacist. He demonstrated that a pharmacist could become an industrialist, employer of labour, corporate strategist, boardroom leader, economic thinker and statesman.

His decision to contest for the Presidency of Nigeria further reflected his commitment to national service. Rather than merely criticising the challenges confronting the country, he offered himself for the responsibility of helping to address them—a demonstration of courage and civic conviction.

Yet, beyond the titles, businesses and public engagements is the man himself.

To those who know him, Mazi Ohuabunwa is an elder of uncommon warmth, an accessible mentor, a repository of experience and a gentleman whose influence is measured not simply by the positions he has occupied, but by the lives he has touched and the opportunities he has helped create.
