Armed bandits
At least three people were killed, and five others wounded when bandits attacked Dansarai community in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The attackers, who also abducted a woman and rustled an unspecified number of livestock, invaded the community at about 5 pm on Friday and operated for nearly five hours.
A resident, Shafiu Umar, told Daily Trust that the bandits arrived on about 50 motorcycles, with three armed men riding on each motorcycle.
He said the attackers moved from house to house, looting shops and terrorising residents.
According to him, the bandits also burgled shops and carted away mobile phones, food items, clothes and other valuables.
Umar said the attack was suspected to be a reprisal for an incident about three months ago when residents confronted bandits who attempted to invade the community.
“Since that incident, we have been living in fear. This latest attack appears to be a reprisal because the residents resisted them at the time,” he said.
Three residents were killed in the attack, while five others sustained gunshot wounds. A woman was also abducted.
Dansarai, located in the eastern part of Malumfashi LGA, shares a boundary with Gwarzo LGA of Kano State.
The community has suffered repeated attacks in recent years, resulting in killings, abductions, livestock rustling and the displacement of residents.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Sadiq Aliyu, said he would verify the information and get back. However, he had not done so as of the time of filing this report. (Daily Trust)
