The Accord Party has questioned the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a peaceful Osun State governorship election, citing the failure of its candidate, Muniru Oyebamiji, to personally attend the signing of the peace accord.

The party’s campaign spokesperson, Bamidele Salam, made the claim during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he also accused the APC of being the main aggressor in the state in the build-up to Saturday’s election.

Salam said Governor Ademola Adeleke remained committed to ensuring a peaceful election, contrasting his position with what he described as the APC candidate’s absence from the peace-signing ceremony.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke is committed to peace. You remember when they came to sign the peace accord; I did say on television that the fact that the candidate of the APC, Muniru Oyebamiji, refused to attend the peace-signing event personally is an indication of the fact that he does not have a personal commitment to ensuring peace,” he said.

The Accord spokesperson also alleged that the APC had been responsible for acts of aggression and rising tension in Osun in recent months.

“Everyone in Osun and those who are objective analysts of the events happening in Osun in the last couple of weeks will tell you that the aggressor in this state in the last couple of months, to the build-up to this election, has been the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Salam said.

His comments came amid heightened political tension in Osun as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The election will be contested across the state’s 30 local government areas, with parties urging their supporters to remain peaceful and participate in the electoral process. (The Sun)
