The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) and Ogoni Trust Fund, Emmanuel Deeyah, has called for an action against persons behind insecurity in Ogoniland especially in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Deeyah spoke when he visited the Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Dr Thomas Bariere, in his office in Bori, the traditional headquarters of Ogoni ethnic nationality, over the recent killing of a former Chief Security Officer of the LGA, Mr Letam Kiine, amongst other reports of violence in the area.

Unidentified gunmen were said to have waylaid their victim at the road leading to Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic and shot him dead.

Addressing the chairman, the councillors and workers in the LGA, Deeyah, condoled them over the loss, expressing confidence on the ability of the LGA boss to tackle insecurity in the area.

Deeyah, who threw his weight behind the LGA boss, commended the efforts of the Chairman in ensuring safety of lives and property in the council.

He recalled that there was a period people could not access some communities in the LGA, including Gwara, but observed that Bariere was able to restore sanity in the area.

He expressed confidence in the ability of the council boss to nip the recent developments in the bud, advising that sponsors of criminality in the area should be brought to face the full wrath of the law.

He said: “All these things are distractions. Whoever is causing insecurity in the LGA is wasting his or her time. We will support you. Put your feet down and don’t be scared of anybody. We will surely chase those causing insecurity out. Day and night do not live together.”

He noted that the LGA chairman had done enough to bring peace in the area, urging those causing insecurity in the LGA to steer clear. (The Nation)
