History was made yesterday when Arsenal legend Thierry Henry scored directly from a corner kick, a feat not known to have been previously achieved by anyone in the MLS, the premier league of the United States of America.
Frenchman Henry who moved to the US after retiring from English Premiership giants Arsenal, scored the first and last goals in the New York Red Bulls’ 3-1 win against Columbus Crew.
“He finished off his brace in spectacular fashion with a goal scored off the back post directly from a corner kick in the third minute of injury time,” says a Yahoo! Sport report.
According to the report, “Columbus’ backup keeper Matt Lampson had just come off the bench in the 85th minute and Henry took advantage of that fact by duping him into thinking he was going to take a short corner. He lured Lampson in, then he launched the ball off the back post and in for an Olimpico goal.”
Henry (showed in photo celebrating his goal with a teammate) now has 13 goals on the season, fourth best in MLS, and the Red Bulls are just two points behind Kansas City in the Eastern Conference.
