Troops of Operation Hadin Kai
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an attempted terrorist infiltration along the Gujba–Buni Yadi Main Supply Route (MSR) in Yobe State, forcing about 30 insurgents to retreat under heavy gunfire.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 following credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists along the strategic highway.
The sources said troops of the 198 Special Forces Battalion, reinforced by personnel from the 27 Task Force Brigade, mobilised to the general area of Mahadiya Bridge after receiving intelligence that the insurgents were attempting to infiltrate the western section of the Gujba–Buni Yadi corridor.
The terrorists, estimated to be about 30 in number, were reportedly taking advantage of the difficult marshy terrain to evade ongoing military clearance operations around the Buni Yadi Forest and adjoining communities.
However, the troops engaged the insurgents with heavy fire, compelling them to abandon the infiltration attempt and retreat in disarray.
Following the encounter, the troops dismounted and conducted extensive exploitation operations across several locations, including Gujba, Gidan Kaji, Kasatchiya, Mahadiya, the College of Agriculture axis, and Sabon Garin Mai Mala, to ensure no terrorists remained concealed in the area.
Military sources said monitoring and surveillance operations are continuing to prevent the insurgents from regrouping or launching fresh attacks.
The attempted infiltration comes as troops intensify offensive operations under Operation Desert Sanity V, aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and denying insurgents freedom of movement across the North-East theatre.
Military authorities said the overall security situation across the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining a high level of vigilance and operational readiness. (Zagazola)
