Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he believes he can defeat any candidate in a transparent election in Nigeria, including winning the presidency, if he chooses to enter politics.

The singer, however, said he is not currently interested in contesting for any elective position, citing concerns over the country’s electoral system and alleged lack of transparency in elections.

Speaking during a recent livestream with content creator Carter Efe, Davido said he would continue focusing on his music career until he is convinced that Nigeria’s electoral process guarantees fairness.

Responding to a question on whether he would consider governing a state, the singer questioned the credibility of Nigeria’s election process. “Nigeria wey dem dey write result? I no get time for all those ones. Because I no be all those ones wey you go cheat me, I go go sleep for house. I will do something to you If you cheat me.”

He added that he would only consider joining politics when there is greater confidence in the electoral system. “Let me just focus on my music until there is transparency then I can go ahead and contest for elective positions. Nobody can beat me in any election, never! In a free and fair election, I can win presidential election in Nigeria.”

The singer further alleged that electoral irregularities remain a major obstacle for credible contests in the country. “But because of the system, there is no transparency, they write results. I waiting to see what they will do in the upcoming Osun gubernatorial election. We are wailing.”

Davido, who has maintained a strong public presence on social and political issues, previously supported civic participation and encouraged young Nigerians to take an active interest in governance. (Arise News)
