The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Audi, announced on Tuesday that 37 officers have been dismissed from the Service for various offences.

Prof Audi, who inducted 100 officers into the Corps’ anti-fraud unit, said the offences ranged from job racketeering to bribery, gun-running, and other misconduct. He added that some personnel are awaiting prosecution under the law establishing the Service.

He, however, charged officers and men of the Corps to uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties to enable them to deliver on the agency’s mandate.

Speaking in Abuja at the induction ceremony, Prof Audi emphasised that executing the Corps’ key responsibilities of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and promoting community safety is impossible without integrity.

“Fraud and corruption are insidious threats that can undermine our efforts, erode public trust, and compromise the very fabric of our agency,” the Commandant General said.

“They not only affect our operations but also tarnish the reputation of the entire civil service. Today, we take a stand against these threats, reinforcing our commitment to ethical conduct and accountability,” he added.

In her address, the Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit, Commandant of Corps Emeribe Chinyere Victory, noted that the unit remains committed to driving integrity, transparency, and accountability.

She stated that since the unit’s creation in 2007 and initial training at the EFCC Institute in 2008, successive leaderships have enhanced capacity building.

She expressed gratitude to Prof. Audi for providing an enabling environment free from interference. She added that the unit continues to detect, prevent, and investigate corrupt activities involving personnel and contractors.

The event featured the launch of two books authored by Dr. Emeribe: The Dark Side of Duty and The Anti-Fraud Lexicon. They were reviewed by retired Assistant Controller General (ACG) Hammed Abodurin. (The Nation)
