NDYFGG President, Comr Lucky OO Ukueku
The National President of the Niger Delta Youth For Good Governance (NDYFGG), Comr. Lucky O.O. Ukueku, has called on the Delta State Government and political stakeholders to cede the House of Assembly slot of the newly revived Ughelli South Constituency 2 to the Ewu bloc in the interest of equity and fairness.
Comr. Ukueku made the call in a press statement personally signed and issued to newsmen in Abuja over the weekend after a crucial meeting with some Ughelli South LGA Leaders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
APPRECIATION TO INEC AND JUDICIARY
Comr. Ukueku first commended INEC and the Federal High Court for the revival of the scrapped Ughelli South Constituency 2.
“This is an existing constituency that was wrongfully abrogated. To God be the glory, it has been restored to the people of Olomu and Ewu in Ughelli South LGA, Delta State,” he said.
THE PLIGHT OF EWU BLOC
He noted that through this agitation, “we will know if the people of Ewu bloc have done anything wrong to the government of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori that warrants their continued neglect at the state level.”
According to him, since the present administration assumed office, Ewu bloc has not benefited significantly from the state government, apart from the LGA Chairmanship which rotates among the three blocs and is currently in Ewu.
He explained that just as Olomu completed two terms under Dr. Richard Kofi, Ewu should also be allowed to complete its two terms. “If not for Chief John Oguma who fought against Ewu having a second term, Hon. Paul Etega from Ewu Bloc would have completed his second term,” he stated.
He added that apart from the Orere Bridge approved by former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Ewu bloc has not recorded any other major project under the Sheriff administration.
He further recalled that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori once openly rebuked the people of Ewu bloc at a public Thanksgiving Service in one of the Ughelli South communities, following a peaceful protest by aggrieved Ewu youths at the Government House over their marginalization in appointments, despite their support for the Governor during the 2023 election.
STRUCTURE OF UGHELLI SOUTH LGA
Comr. Ukueku explained that Ughelli South LGA has six kingdoms, grouped into three blocs:
1. Ughievwen Bloc – Ughievwen Kingdom
2. Olomu Bloc – Olomu Kingdom and Effurun-Otor Kingdom
3. Ewu Bloc – Ewu Kingdom, Arhavwarien Kingdom, and Okpare-Olomu Kingdom
On the current distribution of positions, he said:
1. Ughievwen Bloc has the sitting House of Assembly member, the Commissioner for Works, a member of the State Advisory Council to the Governor, and produced the immediate past Attorney-General who is now the PDP governorship candidate, with numerous EAs, SSAs and SAs to the State Governor.
2. Olomu Bloc has the current State Attorney-General, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Politics, Executive Director of DESOPADEC, several Executive Assistants, SSAs, SAs to the State Governor, and the immediate past LGA Chairman who is also a State Government appointee.
3. Ewu Bloc only has the current LGA Chairman and a few appointees as EAs, SSAs, and SAs.
“With the revival of Constituency 2, Ughievwen now stands alone, while Olomu and Ewu will contest together. In terms of voting strength, Ewu Bloc has three kingdoms with many communities and a larger voting population than Olomu Bloc which has two kingdoms. This makes it difficult for Olomu to defeat Ewu in a free and fair contest,” he stated.
WARNING AGAINST IMPOSITION AND POLITICAL SABOTAGE
Comr. Ukueku warned that if the State Governor attempts to impose a candidate from Olomu, even on the platform of the APC, the people of Ewu will field a candidate under the SDP or any other party to defeat whoever is imposed.
CALL TO EWU PEOPLE
Comr. Ukueku urged the people of Ewu to remain vigilant and resist manipulation.
“If anyone allows himself to be used by Chief John Oguma at this time, that will be the political end of such a person.”
He concluded: “If the Governor or the people of Olomu, out of selfish interest, attempt to hijack the House of Assembly slot, the people of Ewu should field candidates under other parties. Then we will see if votes in 2027 will not count.”
