The busted suspected illegal bunkering site in Lagos State
Troops of the 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army, have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in Lagos State and arrested six suspects during an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing economic sabotage.
The operation, conducted at the Orile General Area of the state, was carried out under the leadership of the Commanding Officer of the battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
Military authorities said the raid followed credible intelligence on suspected illegal oil bunkering activities in the area.
During the operation, troops arrested six suspected oil bunkerers and recovered four trucks, a pumping machine, as well as assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used in the illegal operation.
The suspects and all recovered items have since been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and other necessary legal action.
Commending the troops for the successful operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, praised their professionalism and urged them to sustain the crackdown on economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to combat illegal oil bunkering, a major driver of economic losses, environmental degradation, and organized criminal activity in parts of the country.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations to protect critical national assets and ensure that individuals involved in economic sabotage are brought to justice. (Channels TV)
