The Adamawa government has relaxed the curfew earlier imposed on Lamurde Local Government Area following an improvement in the security situation after the prolonged crisis in the area.

Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri announced the relaxation in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, on Tuesday in Yola.

According to the governor, the relaxed curfew takes immediate effect and will now be enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily until further notice.

Fintiri commended residents of Lamurde for cooperating with security agencies, saying their support had contributed to the gradual restoration of peace in the area.

“The improvement reflects the value of the decisive measures taken by the government to halt the violence and restore normalcy,” he said.

The governor, however, warned that his administration would not tolerate any further breach of the peace and urged residents to sustain the prevailing calm by refraining from actions capable of reversing the gains already recorded.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring lasting peace in Lamurde and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

Fintiri said security agencies had been directed to maintain a strong presence in the area and continue enforcing law and order.

He advised residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel in the interest of lasting peace.

The governor said that Adamawa was known for its culture of peace, tolerance and unity.

Fintiri further called on community leaders, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, as well as other stakeholders, to embrace dialogue, uphold the rule of law and work collectively to sustain peace and security in the area and across the state. (NAN)
