A father and his three sons have been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command over the alleged killing of a farmer, Yakubu Mai-Duna, during a violent dispute between two families in Kumba Village, Sama District of Burra Emirate, Ningi Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday after a disagreement between Mai-Duna, 47, and his neighbour, Kabiru Yusuf, 40, allegedly escalated into a deadly confrontation involving members of both families.

The Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that the dispute began when Mai-Duna allegedly dumped weeds from his farm onto Yusuf’s farmland, sparking an argument that later turned violent.

The statement said Yusuf and his three sons — Abdulrazak Yusuf, 25, Safiyanu Kabiru, 20, and Salisu Kabiru, 15 — allegedly attacked Mai-Duna and another resident, Usman Gagare, 48, who attempted to intervene.

“The suspects allegedly conspired and inflicted grievous injuries on Yakubu Mai-Duna and Usman Gagare, who had intervened to rescue him,” the statement read.

Police operatives from the Burra Division reportedly responded promptly, arrested the four suspects, and rushed the injured victims to the Primary Health Care Centre in Yada-Gungume.

Mai-Duna, however, died while receiving treatment, while Gagare was treated and discharged.

The police said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, urged residents to resolve disagreements through dialogue and lawful means instead of resorting to violence.

He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state. (The Nation)
