Lagos State kicked off the yuletide month of December 2016 with the maiden edition of The Lagos Street Party held from Saturday, December 3 to Sunday, December 4, 2016.
The event, another addition to the tourism calendar of the state, turned the entire stretch of the popular Ahmadu Bello way, Bishop Oluwole Junction down to Adetokunbo Ademola junction into a carnival arena with lots of music, comedy and various displays for fun loving Lagosians.
Speaking on the success of the maiden edition of the Lagos Street Party, the State Acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, disclosed that the priority of the State government is to make the State one of the most visited tourist destinations in Africa.
According to her, “The Governor Akinwumi Ambode-led administration has laid out various programmes for the social and economic benefit of Lagosians during the yuletide period.
The just concluded Lagos Street Party, the upcoming Eight-Day One Lagos Fiesta and others are veritable platforms that have been set up to engage Nigerians in diaspora coming home for vacation and families that cannot to travel for Christmas due to the current economic situation.”
She said the event attracted an influx of children, youths and different families from all walks of life because of notable hip-hop artistes like Olamide, Phyno and host of others commissioned to perform at the Two-Day event.
The Street Party also stimulated the socio-economic activities of the area and evirons with the buying and selling of various items ranging from drinks, food, household items, clothing and services by Lagosians.
Dignitaries present at the event include Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Governor of Lagos State, members of the State Executive Council, top government officials and socialites.
