The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has commenced the sixth batch of its company deregistration exercise, placing 100,000 companies at risk of being struck off Nigeria’s register of incorporated entities for failing to comply with statutory filing obligations.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the commission said the affected companies have been published on its official website and are being given a final opportunity to regularise their records before being removed from the corporate register.
The exercise, tagged “Batch Six”, is being carried out pursuant to Sections 692(3) and 692(4) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, which empowers the commission to strike off companies that are no longer carrying on business or have failed to meet regulatory requirements.
According to the notice, the affected firms are required to file all outstanding annual returns and provide information on Persons with Significant Control (PSC), also known as beneficial ownership information, within 90 days from the date of the notice.
“The affected One Hundred Thousand (100,000) companies can be accessed on the Commission’s website,” CAC stated.
The commission directed affected companies to regularise their records and submit evidence of compliance through its designated email address, struckoffcompanies@cac.gov.ng.
CAC warned that companies that fail to comply within the stipulated period will be removed from the register without further notice.
“Please note that companies that fail to comply within the stipulated timeline shall be struck off the Register without further notice,” the commission said.
The latest action follows an earlier clean-up exercise undertaken by the commission. In February, CAC announced that it had struck off more than 400,000 companies from Nigeria’s corporate register due to inactivity and non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
At the time, the commission said the move was aimed at sanitising the database, improving transparency, and preserving the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s official register of companies.
Industry observers say the ongoing exercise is part of broader efforts by regulators to strengthen corporate governance, improve beneficial ownership disclosure, and ensure that only active and compliant entities remain on the register.
The commission reiterated that the exercise forms part of its statutory mandate to maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of companies operating in Nigeria.
CAC added that it remains committed to delivering prompt and efficient services to its customers while ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act.
The public notice was signed by the commission’s management and dated July 15, 2026. (TRIBUNE)
