Residents of Ajagba Bus Stop in the Ginti-Igbe Laara area of Ikorodu have decried the deplorable condition of the road in the axis
In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, the residents appealed to the Lagos State Government to urgently rehabilitate the Ajagba road.
They said that the deplorable condition of the road had continued to hinder transportation, business activities and daily living, as it had become almost impassable, especially during the rainy season.
They said that persistent flooding, deep potholes and poor drainage had made movement difficult for motorists, commercial transport operators and pedestrians.
Mr Wasiu Adeyemi, a resident, said that the road had deteriorated over the years, causing hardship for commuters and motorists.
“The road is in a terrible condition. Once it rains, it becomes flooded and vehicles struggle to pass. We appeal to the government to come to our aid,” Adeyemi said.
Mrs Bose Ogunleye, a trader, said that the poor state of the road had negatively affected commercial activities in the area.
Ogunleye said that customers found it difficult to access their shops because of the bad road.
“This has reduced patronage and affected our means of livelihood,” she said.
Mr Emmanuel Okonkwo, a commercial bus driver, said that motorists spent huge sums repairing vehicles damaged by potholes on the road.
“We spend a lot on vehicle maintenance because of the potholes. Fixing this road will reduce our losses and make transportation easier,” Okonkwo said.
Another resident, Mrs Aishat Bello, urged the government to construct proper drainage channels alongside the road to prevent recurring flooding.
“The flooding makes life difficult for residents and schoolchildren. We need a durable road with good drainage to solve this problem,” Bello said.
Mr Chinedu Nwafor, a resident said that rehabilitating the road would boost economic activities and improve the well-being of people in the community.
“This road serves many communities. Repairing it will make movement easier, attract businesses and improve the quality of life for residents,” Nwafor said.
The residents appealed to relevant authorities to give urgent attention to the road, expressing optimism that its reconstruction would bring lasting relief to commuters, motorists and businesses in the area. (NAN)
