The Zonal Commanding Officer of RS5, Benin Mr. Kehinde Adeleye, gave the assurance in Ogidi, Idemili North LGA of the state, saying that the FRSC had set a zero tolerance target for itself on traffic gridlock on the River Niger Bridge even as they are already wrapping up preparations for effective control of vehicular movement.
He said the retreat was well timed as it would reawaken the marshals of the core objectives of the FRSC and enable them to be more alive to it.
The Commander described the Special Marshals as crucial partners in the road safety business and urged them to imbibe the culture of discipline and strict adherence to their guiding principles.
He noted that their target plan is to achieve a stress free motoring on both the Asaba and Onitsha ends of the River Niger Bridge adding that the Corps Marshal has met with the Governors of Anambra and Delta state all in a bid to work out modalities so that people don’t have problem on traffic this Christmas.
“This retreat could not have come at a better time with the yuletide lurking around the corner and operation zero tolerance starring us in the face,” Adeleye stated.
On his part, the Deputy National Coordinator, Special Marshal, RS5, Mr. Raphael Ozekhome, called on members in the zone to rise up to the challenge by being on the road to control traffic during Christmas and New year festivals.
While noting that there were no fewer than 2,100 volunteers in the zone, he expressed hopes that traffic situation would continue to get better each year with complimentary efforts of his members to the FRSC.
Ozekhome lauded the leadership of the Special Marshal in Anambra for organising the retreat describing them as one of the best in the zone.
On his part, the Coordinator of Special Marshal in Anambra State, Mr. Ben Osaka, said the retreat was to take the service delivery to the next level by refreshing members on the ideals of being marshals.
Osaka said acquisition of vehicle and construction of an administrative building at the FRSC state Command in Awka were evidences of some of the strides in the state.
He said: “What we did is to bring the leadership of our members down to the units so that they can get knowledge from those who have been there and experts, this will make our collective role be discharged more effectively.”
The retreat with the theme, “Dynamics of Leadership in the FRSC: Special Marshals as a Case Study”, was put together in partnership with the FRSC Anambra Command.
