Suspended Benue NDC aspirant Benjamin Akaakar
The Benue State chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended an aspirant, Engr. Benjamin Akaakar, from the party, for one month.
The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee held on June 23, 2026, at the party’s state secretariat.
In a statement issued by the Benue State Publicity Secretary, Agile Ordedoo Bem, the suspension followed a petition submitted by executives of Mbadede Ward, where Akaakar hails from.
According to the statement, the ward executives raised concerns regarding the handling of party nomination forms and recommended that the state leadership investigate the matter.
The State Working Committee set up a seven-member fact-finding and disciplinary committee to probe the allegations. The committee invited Engr. Akaakar to appear and respond to the claims, but he reportedly did not honour the invitation.
The committee thereafter recommended his suspension in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
The party noted that Engr. Akaakar would cease to represent the NDC or act on its behalf during the period of suspension.
Copies of the suspension notice have been forwarded to the National Working Committee of the NDC, security agencies, and media organisations.
Efforts to reach Akaakar for a reaction were unsuccessful as his number was unreachable. (Vanguard)
