Senator Orji Uzor Kalu
Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said he will continue to pray for Nigeria’s unity until his death, even as he called for stronger investment in security and more decisive action against insecurity to drive sustainable economic growth in the country.
Kalu made the remarks after receiving a souvenir from Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, at the end of his visit to Sokoto State, where he also commissioned 10 road projects executed by the Aliyu administration in the Arkilla New Layout.
According to a statement by the Director General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, Kalu stressed that insecurity remains a major barrier to Nigeria’s economic progress and its ability to improve citizens’ living standards.
He argued that the country needs more stringent security measures to unlock sustainable growth and broader national development.
“The current insecurity in the country is hindering Nigeria’s quest for a more vibrant economy capable of improving the living conditions of its citizens.
“What this country needs is economic expansion so that there can be money, prosperity and goodness for Nigerians. This is what the country needs.”
Commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic direction, Kalu said macroeconomic indicators show improvement, but insisted that ordinary Nigerians are yet to feel the impact.
“Things might look difficult today. Yes, as you can see, I am an industrialist. The macroeconomy is doing well, but the microeconomy is not doing well. I told the President this.”
He added that insecurity continues to limit how much the economy can benefit citizens directly, expressing confidence that increased security investment would change the situation.
Kalu maintained that with improved safety across the country, economic gains would become more widely shared, reiterating his long-standing appeal for national unity.
“Nigeria is one, and I will continue to pray and plead for the unity of this country until I die.”
He also expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for hosting him and inviting him to commission the completed road projects in Sokoto State. (Nigerian Tribune)
