Shakira and Burna Boy performing at the World Cup 2026 opening ceremony
Global music stars Shakira and Burna Boy thrilled fans with a high-energy performance of “Dai Dai” at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Shakira opened her set after J Balvin and launched into the tournament’s official song, delivering her signature dance moves to an excited crowd.
Burna Boy joined her on stage to loud cheers from spectators.
The pair performed together while fans sang and danced along.
“Dai Dai” is the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 song. It also supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to expand access to education worldwide.
Shakira performed with a troupe of dancers and executed polished choreography.
Burna Boy matched the energy with his own moves alongside his dance crew.
The performance ended with both artists at center stage leading the crowd in the song’s closing refrain: “Dale, allez, let’s go”.
Their set was one of the standout moments of the opening ceremony and set the tone for the month-long tournament.
In the opening match that followed shortly thereafter, Mexico had a dream start with a dominant 2-0 victory over nine-man South Africa at the iconic Estadio Azteca.
Julian Quinones scored the opening goal of the tournament and veteran striker Raul Jimenez added a second as the co-hosts’ bid for qualification from Group A got off to smooth start.
The outplayed South Africans finished with only nine men after Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane were sent off, while Mexico also had a man sent off in the chaotic match.
