Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation for Oyo State
The Oyo State Government has dismissed as false a viral video circulating across social media platforms that claims pupils, students and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area have regained their freedom.
Reacting to the widespread circulation of the footage, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, categorically refuted the claim, describing the video as misleading and capable of creating unnecessary confusion among residents and the families of those affected by the abduction.
Oyelade emphasised that, contrary to the claims being shared online, the victims have not been released, noting that the state government is still actively engaged in ongoing efforts to secure their safe return. He stressed that authorities are pursuing carefully coordinated and discreet interventions aimed at achieving a positive outcome.
“The viral video about the release of those abducted at Oriire in Oyo State is unfortunately untrue,” Oyelade stated. “The state government continues its discreet interventions, which we are very hopeful will yield the desired result soon. We thank all for their patience.”
The commissioner urged members of the public, particularly social media users, to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it. He warned that the spread of unconfirmed reports could heighten anxiety, fuel misinformation, and inflict additional emotional pain on the families anxiously awaiting news about their loved ones.
According to him, the government remains fully committed to securing the safe release of the abducted pupils, students and teachers. He assured residents that the administration is working closely with security agencies and other critical stakeholders to ensure that every possible measure is taken to bring the victims home safely.
Reaffirming the government’s resolve, Oyelade said authorities would not relent in their efforts until the abductees are reunited with their families. He also expressed gratitude to residents of Oyo State for their continued patience, understanding and support during the difficult period.
“We thank all for their patience,” he reiterated, while assuring the public that ongoing interventions are being pursued with optimism and determination.
The abduction in Oriire Local Government Area has continued to generate widespread concern across Oyo State, drawing attention from government officials, security agencies, community leaders and residents. As efforts intensify to secure the release of those still being held captive, the state government has appealed for calm and cooperation, insisting that only verified information from official sources should be relied upon regarding developments in the case.
