Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa
Residents of Ibeju-Lekki have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding following concerns over the recent arrival of groups of people into parts of the local government area.
The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, said the administration had taken reports from residents seriously and immediately engaged relevant security agencies to assess the situation.
In a public security advisory issued on Friday, Olowa said security authorities at both state and local levels were fully aware of the development and had commenced monitoring and intelligence-gathering efforts to ensure peace and stability across the area.
He said necessary security measures were being implemented to safeguard lives and property, assuring residents that government remained vigilant and committed to maintaining public safety.
The chairman encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities through appropriate channels, stressing the importance of community cooperation in addressing security concerns.
He, however, warned against harassment, profiling, intimidation, or any form of unlawful treatment of individuals or groups, noting that security matters should be left to law enforcement agencies.
Olowa said residents should continue their lawful activities while upholding the values of peace, tolerance and lawful conduct that have defined Ibeju-Lekki.
The advisory comes amid heightened public attention over reports of the movement of groups into some communities, prompting calls for increased vigilance and security monitoring.
He assured residents that the local government would continue working closely with security agencies to preserve peace and ensure the safety of all residents. (Arise News)
