The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has urged the public to disregard a viral letter claiming that security personnel will be deployed to all examination centres nationwide.
The exam body clarified that the document is completely fabricated and did not originate from its offices.
According to a statement signed by WAEC Nigeria’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Mrs Moyosola Adesina, and made available to newsmen on Friday, the forged letter is dated May 27, 2026, and carries the reference number L/SED/12/DIST/VOL. 4/460.
The letter, addressed to school proprietors and principals, falsely states that a “comprehensive deployment” of officers from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to exam venues would take effect on June 1, 2026.
WAEC confirmed that the signature of Mr S. D. Kum, the Senior Deputy Registrar/Head of Test Administration, was forged on the document.
WAEC management stated that the letter is the work of fraudsters and mischief-makers.

The council noted that the perpetrators aim to, among other things, create unnecessary panic among stakeholders, disrupt the smooth conduct of the ongoing school-based WASSCE, and mislead school principals, proprietors, parents, and candidates.
The council advised school authorities, supervisors, invigilators, parents, and candidates to completely ignore the contents of the letter.
WAEC reassured stakeholders that no such security directive has been issued, and the ongoing 2026 WASSCE for school candidates will proceed as originally planned.
The exam body concluded by wishing all registered candidates success in their ongoing examinations.
