Emir Bayero
The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, is set to conduct the traditional Sallah Durbar horse-riding activities, including the Hawan Daushe and Hawan Nassarawa processions, on Thursday and Friday.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Sarkin Dawaki Babba and senior councillor at the emir’s palace, Aminu Babba DanAgundi, who said security authorities had permitted the events to take place.
According to DanAgundi, the Hawan Daushe procession will begin from the Nassarawa Emir’s Palace and move through parts of Kano city centre, excluding the main Kano Emir’s Palace, currently occupied by the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
“We have written to the police, and they have not stopped us from carrying out the exercise, so we are proceeding peacefully,” DanAgundi said.
He explained that the emir’s entourage would move from the Nassarawa Palace through Kofar Nassarawa before returning to the palace.
DanAgundi further disclosed that Friday’s Hawan Nassarawa procession would pass through major state roads to Fagge and Mandawari, where the emir is expected to make a stop in order to reduce overcrowding from the large number of supporters expected to participate.
He assured residents that the activities would remain peaceful and orderly, stressing that supporters had been warned against any actions capable of causing tension or breaching public peace.
