Sophia Chisom, popularly known as Soso, has said that romantic scenes in movies should be treated strictly as professional responsibilities rather than opportunities for personal gratification.

The Nollywood actress and digital content creator made the remarks while speaking as a guest on a TVC entertainment programme, where she addressed conversations within the film industry about dissatisfaction with onscreen kissing scenes.

Reacting to comments by some colleagues who claimed they had yet to experience a “good kiss” on set, Chisom described such expectations as misplaced, stressing that movie sets are professional environments guided by boundaries and discipline.

“I don’t know if people kiss with their tongues, but I do not kiss with my tongue. My teeth are always closed during kissing scenes, so it is just the lips. But because it is an act, we have to make it believable,” she said.

The actress explained that her approach is influenced by personal boundaries and health considerations, expressing discomfort with the casual exchange of intimacy during film productions.

“Some people kiss with their tongues, but I don’t think it is okay to swap saliva with every single person that you shoot with,” she added.

“Besides, it is a job. So whenever I see a colleague complaining that they didn’t get a good kiss, it is weird. You are not supposed to get a good kiss; it is a job.”

Her comments come amid growing conversations in Nollywood about professionalism, consent, and boundaries during the filming of intimate scenes.

Sophia Chisom first gained widespread recognition online through her comedy skits and the popular character “Soso.” However, the actress said she has now moved beyond digital skit-making and does not intend to return to content creation.

According to her, her career has evolved beyond social media comedy into broader creative pursuits within the entertainment industry.

Earlier this month, Chisom and her creative partner, Emmanuel Kanaga, won the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) award for Best Digital Content Creator.

The duo earned the recognition for their socially conscious production, Leave to Live, a project focused on raising awareness about domestic abuse and societal violence. (The Guardian)
