A 39-year-old man, Jafar Abdullahi Dabawu, has reportedly been killed by unknown assailants four months after his wedding.
The victim who resided opposite the Maitumbi Police Station in Minna, Niger State, was reportedly attacked and killed at his residence around 3am on Thursday after participating in the House of Assembly primaries.
A resident of the area, Muhammad Adamu, told Daily Trust that the deceased got married barely four months ago.
“It is just about four months since he got married. His killers went to his residence and macheted him to death,” he said.
The spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.
He said the attack occurred at about 3:30am on Thursday at the victim’s residence opposite the Maitumbi Police Station.
Abiodun said residents raised an alarm, shouting for help, prompting policemen attached to the area to respond swiftly and move to the scene, where they found the victim lying in a pool of blood.
He said the victim was immediately rushed by the police to the General Hospital, Minna, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected assailants, who covered their faces with masks, gained access to the deceased’s residence and attacked him with dangerous weapons, inflicting severe injuries on his chest and face.
Abiodun added that the matter was under investigation, while efforts were ongoing to trace and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
“On 21/5/2026 at about 3:30am, an alarm was raised in the Maitumbi area opposite the police station, and policemen moved to the scene where they met the victim, later identified as Jafar Abdullahi Dabawu, in a pool of blood,” he said. (Daily Trust)
