President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The 39-year-old computer engineering professor is expected to bring his expertise in digital systems, examination reforms and public-sector innovation to one of Nigeria’s most critical education agencies.
Here are the seven (7) quick facts to know about the new JAMB registrar:
1. Segun Aina is only 39 years old and will clock 40 in July 2026, making him one of the youngest appointees to lead JAMB.
2. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent.
3. He also obtained an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.
4. Before his appointment, he served as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University.
5. Aina’s journey with JAMB started during his National Youth Service, where he gained firsthand experience in the board’s operations and admissions systems.
6. He completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School as part of his leadership development.
7. He is a member of several professional bodies, including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Institution of Engineering and Technology. (tribune)
