The Police Command in Ogun has arrested a 23-year-old suspect over alleged serial fake bank transfer in the Agbado area of the state.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi said that detectives of Agbado Division in Ogun, led by CSP Adesanya Oyekanmi, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), arrested the suspect over alleged serial fake bank transfers within Agbado axis and its environs.
Babaseyi explained that the arrest was executed on Sunday at about 11.45 p.m, following a report that the suspect visited a food vendor at Owolanwa Junction, Agbado, purchased food items worth ₦2,600, and fraudulently presented a fake transfer alert as proof of payment
” Prompt response and coordinated investigative action by operatives of Agbado Division led to the swift arrest of the suspect.
” Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been operating a consistent pattern of fake and scheduled transfer scams across Agbado and neighbouring areas, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
” During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to engaging in the fraudulent activity over a period of time, with proceeds from such acts allegedly running into approximately Ten Million Naira (₦10,000,000),” the command spokesman said.
Babaseyi quoted CP Bode Ojajuni, as commending the professionalism, vigilance, and operational effectiveness of the officers of Agbado Division under CSP Oyekanmi for their swift response and successful apprehension of the suspect.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against financial and cyber-enabled crimes across the State.
The CP further implored traders, business owners, and residents to ensure strict confirmation of payment receipts via banking applications or account statements before releasing goods or services, in order to prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
Ojajuni advised members of the public to support the police, remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal activities through the Command emergency lines.(NAN)
