Gov Buni
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni on Monday, May 18 got the unanimous endorsement of supporters as the APC senatorial candidate for Yobe East senatorial district.
Gov. Buni who will be heading for the senate for the first time was the sole candidate of the party after the incumbent Senator Musa Mustapha stepped down for him.
For Yobe North Senatorial District, President of the Ninth Senate, Ahmed Lawan also secured his ticket.
For Yobe South, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai was also unanimously chosen by the APC to represent his people for the third time in a row.
Sen. Bomoi was also asked to maintain his seat back to the senate.
Meanwhile, Governor Buni has formally accepted his nomination as the consensus candidate for Yobe East Senatorial District, urging members of the party to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Buni, who spoke on Monday during an acceptance ceremony in Damaturu, described his emergence as a reflection of the political maturity and stability that have continued to define Yobe East Senatorial Zone.
The governor said the peaceful consensus arrangement adopted by stakeholders had further strengthened the APC as a united political family in the state.
“It is gratifying to be here with you today at this very historic occasion of my nomination as the consensus candidate for Yobe East Senatorial Zone,” he said.
He also commended the Association of Zone A Political Office Holders and Public Officers for purchasing his nomination and expression of interest forms.
According to Buni, Yobe East had over the years maintained a tradition of political harmony that produced quality leadership at the state and national levels.
The governor particularly praised the incumbent senator representing the zone, Musa Mustapha, for accepting the party’s consensus arrangement and stepping down for him in the interest of unity.
Buni described the senator as “a fine gentleman and democrat,” noting that his sacrifice would strengthen cohesion within the party.
“He unconditionally succumbed to the consensus mode of the primary election adopted by the party and relinquished his aspiration with great humility. This sacrifice will never be in vain,” the governor stated.
Accepting the nomination, Buni pledged to provide quality representation at the National Assembly and prioritise the interests of the people of Yobe East.
“I humbly accept this offer and submit myself for the contest of the senatorial office for Yobe East Senatorial Zone. I pledge to put in my best at the National Assembly as your representative, placing the overall interest of the people above any other interest,” he said.
In Borno State, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan also got massive consensus endorsement of the ruling APC in the state to return to the senate for Borno Central.
The endorsement was witnessed by Gov. Zulum in the presence of a huge crowd and other party stakeholders in the zone.
