Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari
Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat of Katsina State.
Announcing the results, the chairman of the constituency’s APC primary election committee, Lawan Garba, said Yusuf Buhari secured 17,342 votes, defeating his opponent, Auwalu Musa Daura, who polled 480 votes.
Garba subsequently declared Yusuf Buhari as the APC flag bearer for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in the forthcoming general elections.
In his acceptance speech, Yusuf Buhari expressed appreciation to party members and supporters across the constituency for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to work with all stakeholders and supporters of the party to ensure APC’s victory in the 2027 elections.
He also called on his opponent and other party members to join hands with him in the interest of unity and the overall success of the party.
“I will embrace everyone and carry all party members along to ensure that APC emerges victorious in the general elections. I sincerely thank the people of Daura, Sandamu and Mai’adua for coming out in large numbers to support me,” he said.
However, Auwalu Lawan Daura, son of former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, rejected the outcome of the exercise, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the primary election.
Speaking to Daily Trust shortly after the exercise, Daura said he was dissatisfied with the manner in which the direct primary was conducted, claiming that the process did not comply with party guidelines.
According to him, many of those who partook in the exercise were not registered APC members.
“I am not satisfied with what happened today. Evidence is everywhere showing the injustice that was done. The manner of counting was highly questionable, and most of the people counted did not even have party membership cards,” he alleged.
Daura further explained that his decision to participate in the primary election was not intended to disrespect the party leadership or any individual, but was driven by his belief in justice, fairness and internal democracy within the party.
He maintained that every aspirant deserved a level playing field and insisted that party processes should be conducted transparently to sustain members’ confidence in the APC. (Weekend Trust)
