Auwalu Lawan Daura
Auwalu Lawan Daura, the main challenger of Yusuf Buhari for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency of Katsina State, has faulted the ongoing primaries.
Daily Trust reports that Daura is the only aspirant who refused to accept the son of late President Muhammadu Buhari as the consensus candidate of constituency.
Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday, Daura said he was not satisfied with the manner in which the direct primaries were conducted.
Alleging that the exercise was not conducted in accordance with party’s directives, he said most of the people who participated in the primaries did not possess APC membership cards.
“I am not satisfied with what happened today. Evidence is everywhere showing the injustice that was done. The manner of counting was highly dubious, and most of the people counted did not even have party membership cards,” he stated.
He revealed that his insistence on participating in the primaries was not out of disrespect to the party or any individual, adding that his actions were motivated by the need to uphold justice and fairness.
“When I started this political movement, I made it clear that it was about the will of the people. When a consensus candidate was said to have been adopted, the people said no, they wanted us to go for primaries. Therefore, my insistence was not a sign of disrespect, but rather a demonstration of our support for justice and fairness,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, the result of the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency primaries was still being awaited. (Weekend Trust)
