Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Genevieve Nnaji, is set to return to television with “Wahala”, a new six-part drama series produced by British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the series, based on the novel ‘Wahala’ by Nikki May, is written by BAFTA-nominated screenwriter, Theresa Ikoko.
BBC confirmed the cast on Tuesday, unveiling a female led ensemble featuring Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo and Susan Wokoma alongside Genevieve Nnaji.
Set in London, the drama follows four Nigerian British women whose close friendship is tested as they navigate work, relationships and family life.
Their lives begin to unravel when hidden secrets from the past resurface, leading to betrayal and mounting tension among the group.
Speaking about the project, Nnaji expressed excitement about joining the production.
“I’m very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team. It’s an intriguing story and I’m excited to be a part of it,” she said.
NAN reports that the project marks one of Nnaji’s most notable returns to acting in recent years following Lionheart, her directorial debut, which premiered in 2018 before streaming globally on Netflix in 2019. (NAN)
